Our Friendly Horses Add Extra Magic To Your Day

Are you ready to “Get Hitched” in the Smoky Mountains? The three horses at Honeysuckle Hills provide a unique wedding experience for photos that you’ll never forget! Sugar, Ben, and Smoky have developed quite a reputation here, and I’d like to introduce them.

The “Running Horse” shot is Sugar’s claim to fame second only to when she hilariously sticks out her tongue. She’s a 22-year-old white appaloosa who loves the attention of anyone standing on the ground next to her. Many people tried to break her to ride (including our very own Pastor Lloyd,) but were incredibly unsuccessful. Regina promised Sugar when she came to the farm in 2009 that she’d never have anyone on her back as long as she was sweet (as sugar) otherwise. That agreement has been binding ever since.

Ben is the old man who watches over his herd and hogs all the food. He has a condition called a bowed tendon from an old injury, making him an undesirable trail horse but he loves affection. He’s also known as “The Pirate” because of an unfortunate event in 2020 when he suffered an injury to his eye that required its removal. However, he will be forever loved and cared for at Honeysuckle Hills for all his days.

Smoky, also 22 years old, is a spunky appaloosa who loves to compete with Sugar for top performer. Other than her age, she’s healthy as a horse so to speak, and a lovely model for stunning wedding photos!

Between their old age and a few health issues, this means you won’t be able to ride them, but they love posing and showing off for unique wedding images. The minute you enter the horse field, you’ll see how eager they are to please!

There’s no charge for photos inside the horse field when they’re simply in the background looking cute. Many couples enjoy a romantic embrace in front of our 1950 Ford truck with our horses casually grazing nearby. But if you’d like them to kick up their heels a little more, there’s a small fee to add an equine professional who will guide them to run around you and approach close enough to touch. This interactive experience is for adults only, two at a time. Our horses “work” for their food, and we can only feed them a certain amount each day. (Overfeeding is actually dangerous to their health.) We’ll wait to charge you for the interactive horse experience until your wedding day, since it’s weather dependent.

At the end of the day, it’s the unexpected, joyful moments that make your wedding truly yours. Whether that’s Sugar sticking her tongue out at the camera or Ben nudging you for a little extra love, you’ll cherish these memories for a lifetime!
